Job Summary

This role is part of a Clinical Resource Unit (Float Pool) providing specialized nursing care across multiple inpatient units including Medical-Oncology, Surgical-Orthopedic, Cardiovascular Care, Progressive Care, Mental Health, and Acute Rehab. The environment is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring adaptability and a broad skill set.

Key Responsibilities

• Float to various inpatient units and provide direct nursing care to diverse patient populations.
• Perform initial patient assessments, develop and modify individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and evaluate their effects.
• Prepare patients for procedures and manage post-operative care.
• Perform IV venipuncture and blood administration.
• Document all nursing care accurately using electronic medical records (EMR).
• Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge instructions.
• Delegate patient care tasks to healthcare team members and validate completion.
• Maintain patient safety through adherence to fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and ambulation safety.
• Participate in team huddles and maintain professional communication and conflict management.
• Provide bedside shift reports and ensure effective patient communication.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and optimize patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 1 year of float experience, including float experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Ability to manage care for both acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
