Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Brownsville, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medical/Surgical
• Bed Capacity: 32 beds
• Staff on Unit: Approximately 40 employees including Director, Manager, CNs, Staff RNs, LVNs, Nurse Aides, and Unit Secretaries
• Shifts:

  • Day Shift: Charge Nurse, 3-5 staff nurses (depending on census), 2-3 nurse aides, Unit Secretary
  • Night Shift: Charge Nurse, 3-5 staff nurses (depending on census), 2-3 nurse aides
• Patient Ratios: 6-7 patients per nurse; 2-3 nurses depending on census
• Equipment: PCA pumps, IV pumps
• EMR system in use

Typical Procedures Performed

• Admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Wound care
• IV therapy
• Blood administration
• Specimen collection
• Medication administration

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 2 years recent hospital experience
• Minimum of 2 years Med-Surg experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Surgical experience
• Bilingual skills (preferred but not required)
• Experience with Meditech EMR system

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Royal Blue
• Scrub jackets: White or Royal Blue only
• No outside jackets allowed
