Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) travel contract in Columbus, Ohio.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Provider or Instructor certification required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Provider or Instructor certification required (effective 11/13/25 for new bookings).
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required only for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units (verify if applicable).
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units (verify if applicable).
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): May be required depending on unit.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: May be required depending on unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable.
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
    • Unit-specific competency exam required.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed).

Background and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Transcript or diploma verification required.
  • Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific fingerprinting code (3701.881). New fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or prior results are older than 1 year.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series required; signed declination acceptable.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation.
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application required, including education verification for nursing candidates.
  • Skills checklist required.
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy.
  • Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.

  • Candidates must submit requested time off for manager approval before contract submission.
  • Fingerprinting and background check processes are time-sensitive; candidates are encouraged to complete fingerprinting promptly.
  • Some certifications and requirements may vary by unit; verify unit-specific needs during onboarding.
