Registered Nurse - ICU/PCU (Day Shift)

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to critically ill patients across the pediatric to geriatric age spectrum. Responsibilities include patient assessment, development and implementation of care plans, and evaluation of nursing interventions to protect, maintain, and restore health. Recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias and life-threatening emergencies in accordance with critical care standards.


Essential Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive health history and physical assessments.
  • Prioritize patient problems based on actual or potential threats.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized plans of care, including discharge planning and referrals.
  • Manage life-threatening complications to maintain airway, ventilation, hemodynamic stability, and heart rhythm.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in critical care nursing practices, trends, and biomedical equipment.
  • Complete mandatory education and participate in annual competency evaluations.
  • Assist with temporary pacemaker insertion and ambulance transport as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Minimum of 2 years of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Coronary Care Unit nursing experience
  • Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Certification or proficiency in National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
