Job Opportunity: ER Nurse Manager

Location: Garden City, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 12-hour shifts, weekends possible
Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ER Nurse Manager with a minimum of 4 years of emergency department leadership experience. This role involves managing an 8-bed emergency department plus a fast track area that receives STEMI and stroke patients. The unit includes a separate triage area and an intermixed holding area. Security is in-house 24/7.

• Average Patients per Day: ~50
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 depending on acuity

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Abdominal pain
• Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
• NSTEMI
• Pneumonia
• Trauma
• Stroke
• Hypertension (HTN)

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 4 years of emergency department leadership experience
• Prior ED leadership skills are a must
• Familiarity with standard ER medications and drips
• Ability to manage and support nursing staff including charge nurses and techs

Support Staff & Equipment

• Techs assist nurses and unit secretaries, including triage support
• Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7, perform ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs
• RT equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen; RNs troubleshoot as needed
• No monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips
• No X-Ray or CT on site in ER; no transport required
• RNs perform phlebotomy draws

Scheduling & Orientation

• Orientation: 2-3 days, 12-hour day shifts, weekends possible
• Weekend shifts required as needed
• No holiday requirements
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements

Additional Notes

• Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation, even if some modules are remote
• Driver’s license must be submitted
• Radius for travel: 60 miles

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 4 years of emergency department (ED) leadership experience, including manager roles within the last year
• Experience specifically in emergency department (ED) settings
• Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current TNCC certification
• Current NIHSS certification
