Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts with variable start/stop times (ranges from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • On-call: Yes, 1 call shift per month
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, 1 weekend shift per month
  • Floating: No floating required
  • Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for 1 shift per 2 weeks)
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles from facility)
  • First Timers Accepted: Yes

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
  • Preferred Experience: Pediatric PACU experience preferred
  • Skills Required: PACU Phase II care

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • License: Current Alaska RN license (must have license in hand for auto offer; pending license accepted for screening)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: Must have a background check within 45 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Immunizations and screenings including TB test, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Flu vaccine (seasonal), COVID vaccine or declination
    • Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start
    • Respirator clearance (annual) for travel candidates
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps
  • Skills Checklist: Required and must be updated annually for applicable units
  • Photo for Badge: Passport style photo with neutral background required

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Completion of required WorkRamp modules (regulatory, specialty-specific, and facility-specific) prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Competency exams related to specialty and unit requirements
  • Epic training modules completion required for electronic health record access

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alaska
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • PACU Phase II experience
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for variable shift times and on-call responsibilities.
  • Floating to other units is not required.
  • Local candidates are not eligible; must reside at least 50 miles away.
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
