Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 8 weeks)
Assignment Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)


Job Summary

  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department.
  • Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient needs and priorities.
  • Safely and accurately triage every patient entering the emergency care system.
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.
  • Support the unit during Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips before starting; a basic dysrhythmia test must be passed during the first week to continue working in the ED.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) RN experience, including experience within the last year
  • Certifications:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
    • MOAB (GRH CPI/MOAB required for all RN ER positions)
  • Experience with Cerner and Epic electronic medical records

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted)
  • Influenza vaccine (or facility declination) due annually by December 1
  • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
  • Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
  • Tdap (valid for 10 years; declination accepted)
  • TB Test (negative test within past year or appropriate documentation if history of positive test)
  • Fit Test for approved respirators completed prior to start
  • Health Statement from physician within last 12 months

Background and Verification

  • Professional license verification within 30 days of start
  • Background check within 30 days of start including SS trace and county search for last 7 years
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
  • Education verification through third party or with diploma/transcripts
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (9 panel, THC not required)
  • Professional references: 2 required, including 1 supervisor reference
  • Resume or profile submission required
  • I-9 attestation on agency letterhead
  • Additional screenings and attestations as required by policy

Additional Information

  • Traveler will not be part of regular call rotation but must be available for occasional call-in.
  • Must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called.
  • Must complete GRH Skills Checklist within 12 months (does not expire).
  • Must complete GRH OSHA Questionnaire.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room RNs comfortable with telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, and working in a fast-paced ED environment during an EMR transition period.
