Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Yuma, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Hospital in Southern Arizona is seeking Registered Nurses for a 13-week assignment in the Emergency Room (ER) unit.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent ER experience (trauma Level I/II within the past 3 years; Level III or CAH experience not accepted)
  • Active certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
  • Epic EMR proficiency required and must have recent experience using it
  • Trauma nursing experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center environment preferred
  • TNCC certification preferred

Shift & Scheduling

  • Shift: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
  • Start date is fixed and not flexible
  • Modified self-scheduling with varied shift start times (7, 10, 11, 12, 1, 3)
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
  • Holiday requirement: Typically 2 shifts out of 5 (including eves)
  • No blocked scheduling requests allowed
  • No more than 5 days of Return to Office (RTO) allowed

Unit Details

  • Trauma Level: Level 3 trauma center (ER operates like Level 1)
  • Beds: 52 total with 4 trauma bays
  • Average patient volume: Approximately 200 patients per day
  • Ratios: 1:5 for medical patients, 1:6 for fast track
  • Fast Track: 6 beds available
  • Triage: Two quick-look areas using ESI
  • ER holds are intermixed within the ER (no separate holding area)
  • No seclusion rooms for psychiatric patients
  • Security present in ER 24/7

Team & Support Staff

  • ED staffed with physicians, mid-level providers, and pediatric board-certified providers on varied shifts
  • No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available for assistance
  • ED techs with 2+ years experience assist with EKGs, vitals, blood draws, splints
  • Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) with less than 2 years experience assist with similar duties
  • Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7 for ABGs, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, CPAP
  • RT equipment includes Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators
  • Monitor techs available, but RNs must read their own telemetry

Equipment & Procedures

  • Dedicated CT and X-ray located in the ER with transport team support
  • ED techs perform lab draws; RNs may draw labs off IV starts
  • Common drips include ICU-level drips for hold patients with ICU support available

Orientation

  • One day New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • One day clinical/EPIC training
  • One day floor orientation

Additional Notes

  • 100-mile radius rule applies
  • Floating schedule shared with nearby freestanding ER; infrequent last-minute floating
  • RN responsible for telemetry reading, supported by monitor techs

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses comfortable in a high-volume, trauma-focused environment with strong EMR skills and required certifications.
