Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Unit: Stepdown / Med Surg Overflow / Cardiovascular Experience (CV EXP)
  • Shift: 36 or 48 hours shifts; schedule may be discussed during interview
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 or 1:7 (team nursing ratios)
  • On-call and weekend coverage as needed
  • No weekend block scheduling, but weekend blocks may be considered
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted
  • Pending licenses not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions apply and must be submitted with application

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least one year within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
  • Experience in a large hospital setting
  • One completed travel nursing assignment
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Advanced AWHONN certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications & Licenses

  • Current, valid Tennessee RN license or multistate RN license (NLC compliant)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required for Stepdown/Tele units
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification required and must be renewed annually
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, TNCC preferred but not required)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including statewide, county, federal, and education verification within 60 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending results accepted)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
    • Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Fit test for N-95 masks (3M 1860 or 1870+) within 1 year of start, must pass without limitations
  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no glasses glare, no hats unless religious, no filters)

Additional Information

  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluations required for candidates employed with agency for one year or more
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
  • Business casual attire with lab coat required for RN Case Managers
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment and flu exemption forms must be signed prior to start
