Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 4x10 hour shifts, weekdays 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • On-call every 5th weekend
  • Orientation: 2 days (classroom followed by unit orientation)
  • Patient population: Adults & Geriatrics
  • Patient ratio: 1:1 staffing
  • May be floated to general lab duties
  • No blocked schedules accommodated
  • Must have active West Virginia RN license with RDCS - Adult credentials to start
  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Interventional Radiology nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) certification
  • ACT (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Technician) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Certifications & Testing

  • BLS (AHA only)
  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • Pass/Fail testing required for EKG, Medication Calculation, and Blood Administration (Nursing only)
  • Annual competencies including medication test/pharmacology exam and color blindness testing
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., CPI for certain units)

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation occurs every other week on Thursdays
  • Includes Cerner Infusion Management training
  • Inservice training modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Candidates must submit proof of completion of required modules before starting

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year, stating candidate is in good health and free from communicable diseases
  • Annual fit mask testing (N95) required; accommodations available if unable to pass fit test
  • Required vaccinations or approved exemptions:
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless medically exempt
    • Tdap vaccination required
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer documentation required
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titers required
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted

Background & Documentation

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • Required background components: SSN trace, county checks, sex offender search, national criminal check
  • Additional federal exclusions and sanction checks required and must be current
  • Social Security card and valid driver’s license required
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
  • References: Minimum 1 reference from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the past year

Additional Notes

  • Candidates cannot return as travelers within 2 years of last permanent employment at this facility
  • Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof will disqualify candidate during flu season
  • Candidate must comply with all facility-specific policies including dress code, blood administration policy, and time and attendance
  • Candidate must complete facility-specific forms and credentialing documents prior to privileges being granted

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level IV Trauma Center with a major teaching hospital environment, caring for complex adult and geriatric patients in Interventional Radiology.
