Registered Nurse (Emergency Room) - Arizona, Yuma

Job Details

  • Location: Yuma, Arizona
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Start Times: 7 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 3 PM (varied)
  • Scheduling: Modified self-scheduling
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 of 5 holidays (including eves)
  • Floating: Shared schedule with nearby main campus ER; typically scheduled ahead, infrequent last-minute floating; 15-minute drive to main campus ER
  • Orientation: One new employee orientation (NEO), one day clinical/EMR training, one day on the floor
  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs

Facility & Environment

  • Trauma Level II emergency room with 20 beds and 2 trauma bays
  • 6 fast track beds available
  • Separate triage areas using ESI (Emergency Severity Index)
  • ER holds intermixed within ER; no separate psych/seclusion rooms
  • Security present in ER 24/7
  • Average patient volume: ~300 patients per day
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Medical: 1:5
    • Urgent Care: 1:2-3
    • Fast Track: 1:6
  • Charge nurse not assigned per shift; house supervisor available for assistance
  • Support staff includes ED techs (with 2+ years experience), PCAs (less than 2 years experience), respiratory therapists (RT) 24/7
  • RT equipment includes Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators
  • Telemetry monitoring: RN reads own telemetry; monitor tech also available
  • Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER; transport team available for critical patients
  • Lab draws performed by ED techs or RNs (no phlebotomists)

Required Certifications & Experience

  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room nursing experience
    • Must have trauma Level I or II experience accumulated within the past 2-3 years
    • Experience with gunshot wounds and stab wounds is a plus
  • EMR: Epic proficiency required, with experience within the last 2 years

Patient Care & Common Diagnoses

  • Treats all emergency needs including trauma, stroke, STEMI
  • Common use of ICU drips for hold patients; ICU support available
  • Pediatric board-certified providers available on some shifts

This position requires a skilled ER nurse with recent trauma experience and strong proficiency in Epic EMR, ready to work in a busy Level II trauma emergency department with a high patient volume and varied shift times.
