Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – CVICU

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Number of Beds: 12
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:1 based on patient acuity
  • Shift Length: 12 hours, 7 days per week
  • Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend shifts per pay period (may vary between Friday or Saturday nights)
  • Holiday Requirement: Yes
  • Call/Standby Requirement: Yes, maximum 3 per 12 weeks
  • Floating: Yes, as needed to ICU, PCU, MS, Tele units across both campuses
  • Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
  • Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation provided

Patient Population & Care

  • Common Diagnoses: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
  • Common Procedures/Skills: Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), fresh open heart surgery (OHS) experience from OR
  • Nurse Responsibilities: RNs are required to titrate drips
  • Common Drips: Dexmedetomidine, Propofol, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Levosimendan, Insulin, Cardene
  • Monitoring: RNs read cardiac rhythm strips; in-room telemetry monitors only
  • Respiratory Therapy: Respiratory therapists available department-wide 24/7; equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, HiFlow

Required Certifications & Exams

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Dysrhythmia exam: Must pass with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing (failure results in 6-month disqualification from assignments in this region)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Impella experience is desired but not mandatory

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have their own vehicle if applying as a travel duo; schedules will not align
  • Radius rule: Candidates cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within 50 miles at any facility associated with the specified health system in the past year
  • Charge Nurse and House Supervisor roles are staffed 24/7
  • No nurse aides on the unit
  • Intensivists are in-house
  • Monitor technicians are not present; RNs interpret strips
  • Electronic Health Record system experience with Cerner is preferred
