Job Description

• Work in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) caring for fresh cardiac open heart patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are regulated at 1:2, with the possibility of 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
• Fresh open heart surgical patients require a 1:1 ratio.
• Floating assignments may include Critical Care Unit (CCU), Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU), ICU, and/or stepdown units.
• Schedule includes every other weekend shifts.
• Charting system used: Epic.
• Scrubs color: Royal Blue.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Experience & Skills

• Experience with fresh open heart surgical patients.
• Experience with CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft), Intra-aortic balloon pump, Impella, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), and valve replacement procedures.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications required.
• Stroke CEUs required.

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.
• Minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year.
• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• IV certification.
• NIH Stroke Certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with fresh open heart surgical patients.
• Experience with CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft).
• Experience with Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP).
• Experience with Impella.
• Experience with TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement).
• Experience with valve replacement procedures.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history.
• Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial).
• Background check within 30 days of start.
• E-Verify clearance.
• Various facility-specific attestations and acknowledgments (e.g., floating policy, annual education sign-off).
• Completion of required competencies and pass/fail exams within specified timeframes.
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory.
• Annual education and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
• Drug screen and immunization documentation must be current and compliant.

Additional Information

• Floating to other critical care units may be required.
• Charting is done in Epic.
• Scrubs color is royal blue.
• Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
• Must be able to work every other weekend.
• Patient acuity may affect nurse-to-patient ratios.
