Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Outpatient Surgery

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Schedule: Two shifts available (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM and 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • Work hours: 72 hours over two weeks (5 days one week, 4 days the next)
  • One day off every other week
  • Patient population ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics
  • Role: RN operating room circulator with at least 1 year of circulator experience in the intraoperative setting
  • Surgical specialties include: Retina surgery, total hip/knee replacements, hand surgery, breast oncology and reconstruction, ENT, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, podiatry
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4, with 5 operating rooms and an average daily census of 18
  • Unit systems used: Epic, Pyxis
  • No weekend shifts required
  • Floating is rare and only within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements, but may need to stay late depending on room completion status
  • Time off requests have a maximum of 7 days and blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4-12)
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2 holidays, expected to work both; if 3 holidays, expected to work 2
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
  • Full compliance with onboarding and credentialing required to start on time

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of outpatient surgery experience within the last year
  • Experience in hand surgery
  • Experience in ENT surgery
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including criminal, sex offender, and education verification
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts may be accepted if pending
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season
  • Competency exams required for medication administration, dysrhythmia/EKG, and color blindness testing
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Verification of recent work history and clinical references required
