Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room

Location: Yuma, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse with trauma Level I or II experience to provide care in a Level 2 trauma emergency department. The role involves working in a busy ER environment with a variety of emergency cases including trauma, STEMI, and stroke patients.


Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room nursing experience.
  • Must have trauma Level I or II experience accumulated within the last 2 to 3 years.
  • Experience with gunshot wounds and stabbing cases is a plus.
  • Epic EMR proficiency required, with experience within the last two years.

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred

Licensure

  • Current and valid RN license for the state of Arizona.

Work Environment & Details

  • Trauma Level: Level 2 trauma center.
  • ER Beds: 20 beds with 2 trauma bays.
  • Fast Track: 6 beds.
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 300 patients per day.
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Medical: 1:5
    • Urgent Care: 1:2-3
    • Fast Track: 1:6
  • Security: In-house 24/7.
  • Support Staff: ED techs with 2+ years experience assist with EKGs, vitals, blood draws, and splints; patient care assistants with less experience also support.
  • Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7 for ABGs, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, CPAP.
  • Equipment: Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators.
  • Imaging: Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER; transport team available.
  • Lab Draws: ED techs or RNs perform lab draws; no phlebotomists.
  • Telemetry: RN reads own telemetry; monitor techs also available.
  • Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available for assistance.
  • Physician Coverage: MDs, mid-levels, and pediatric board-certified providers on varied shifts.

Scheduling

  • Shift Start Times: 7 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 3 PM.
  • Scheduling: Modified self-scheduling.
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block.
  • Holiday Requirement: Typically 2 holidays (including eves) per 5-week period.
  • Floating: Shared schedule with main campus ER; infrequent last-minute floating; 15-minute drive to main campus.
  • Orientation: One day New Employee Orientation, one day clinical/EPIC training, one day floor orientation.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.

Additional Notes

  • Start dates are fixed and not flexible.
  • Must comply with a 100-mile radius rule.
  • No 48-hour shift guarantees.
  • No blocked scheduling requests.
  • Return to Office (RTO) limited to no more than 5 days.
  • Trauma experience must include Level I or II; Level III or lower trauma experience is not acceptable.

This position is ideal for an ER nurse with solid trauma experience looking to work in a high-volume, Level 2 trauma emergency department with a supportive team and varied patient population.
