Speech Language Pathologist Assistant
Location: Northridge, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
A hospital in California is seeking an experienced Speech Language Pathologist Assistant for a travel contract. The position involves working in various settings including outpatient, inpatient, and rehab areas. The candidate may be required to float between different units as needed.
Typical Workload & Environment
- Patients treated per day:
- Outpatient: up to 9
- Inpatient: up to 13
- Rehab: varies
- Shifts: Typically 8 hours, with variable start times; schedules may include Wed-Sun or Thu-Mon rotations
- Weekend requirements vary and will be specified with the requisition
- Holidays are not required
- Uniform: Maroon polo shirt, dark pants, closed-toed shoes; lab coat optional
- EMR system used: Cerner Powerchart
- Rehab aides/OTA/PTA support available
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Speech therapy patients include those with stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), neurological conditions, trauma, cognitive impairments, and swallowing difficulties
- Experience with bedside swallow studies is required; video swallowing studies experience preferred
- Other therapy areas include ortho, post-surgical, neuro, trauma, spinal cord injuries, cardiac, and medical-surgical patients
Orientation & Training
- Approximately 1.5 days of floor-specific orientation including job and unit training
- Cerner EMR training provided during orientation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Speech Language Pathologist license in California
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
- Speech Language Pathologist experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Certified Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) certificate via ASHA
Additional Notes
- Candidates with inpatient clinical experience may be considered even if they do not meet the full one-year experience requirement, depending on requisition specifics
- Screening will be based on requisition details specifying exact needs
