Registered Nurse - Med Surg Telemetry (Travel)

Location: Cortez, Colorado

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide nursing care to patients in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner using appropriate nursing procedures. Care is patient-centered and requires knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan. The nurse will assess patient status, interpret clinical data, and provide care according to unit policies and procedures. Competency in disease processes, symptom recognition, and use of information technology for evidence-based care is essential.

Essential Functions

• Practice within nursing standards, policies, and accreditation requirements.
• Operate within scope of practice with current, evidence-based knowledge and skills.
• Focus on patient-centered care, teamwork, and customer service.
• Understand telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation.
• Supervise non-professional staff, assist with work assignments, and act as a resource.
• Assist physicians with patient care, rounds, procedures, and timely order execution.
• Administer medications following procedures, including controlled substances and EMAR scanning.
• Maintain high standards of patient care and communicate concerns through proper channels.
• Participate in in-service education, departmental meetings, drills, and evaluations.
• Adhere to safety and infection control standards.
• Assist other nursing departments as needed.
• Initiate and revise patient care plans based on standards and patient condition.
• Respond to workload changes and adjust assignments to meet unit needs.
• Use critical thinking to evaluate and communicate patient care effectiveness.
• Document nursing care accurately and timely using technology.
• Participate in ongoing personal and professional development.
• Demonstrate flexibility with shifts and adhere to attendance policies.
• Promote quality improvement and accuracy in all tasks.

Unit-Specific Duties (may include)

• Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care
• Family birthing and newborn care (delivery to discharge)
• Procedural sedation
• Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care including complications
• Rapid sequence intubation
• Fetal and advanced cardiac monitoring (NST, CVP, A-line)
• Use of rapid infuser, epidural, critical drips, ventilator/BiPAP
• Trauma alert response
• Hearing screening, infant security, EMTALA compliance
• CCHD screening, phototherapy, pre-term care

Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse license in Colorado (Compact license accepted; Colorado license must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of experience in nursing specialty (Med Surg Telemetry).

Skills and Abilities

• Effective verbal and written communication in English.
• Strong customer service and active listening skills.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work with diverse cultural and religious patient populations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional unpleasant odors.
• Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors.
• Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind.
• Physical requirements include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, and fine auditory and visual skills.
