Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington

Job Summary
Seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a high-acuity, fast-paced Labor and Delivery unit. The role requires working in a high-risk, high-volume environment with a focus on maternal and newborn care. Candidates must be able to float to postpartum and antepartum units and may be required to float to nearby facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
Required Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of nursing experience in a high-acuity and high-pace environment.
- Preference for nurses with 5 years of high-risk experience, but candidates with at least 3 years and high-risk exposure will be considered.
- No first-time travelers accepted.
- Must have current supervisory references.
- Prior travel experience is required (unit does not accept first-time travelers).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care in a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Function as the Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum (including eyes, thighs, assessments, and Vitamin K injections).
- Circulate in the OR as needed (circulating role required, but not mandatory for this specific req).
- Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Float between Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and antepartum units, including sister facilities.
Patient Population
- Midwifery clients, private OB patients, adult recovery services supporting substance recovery, and community care clinics.
Certifications Required
- Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (AWHONN or NCC accepted)
Licensure
- Must have a current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington State.
- Compact license holders are honored if active.
Schedule
- Posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass clinical review with proof of current NURSYS verification.
- Must provide proof of required certifications with submission.
- Must have a minimum of 2 supervisory references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Must be able to pass background checks and meet all health and safety requirements including immunizations, drug screening, and physical exam.
- Must complete required regulatory and specialty-specific training modules prior to start.
Float Policy
- Acknowledgement required; may be required to float to other nearby facilities within a reasonable distance.
Patient Care Environment
- High-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery with 31 beds and 4 operating rooms.
- Average daily census approximately 15 patients.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
Important Notes
- Candidates without the required newborn care skills (including circulating and newborn assessments) will not be considered.
- EPIC electronic medical record system is used with hard stops for certain documentation.
- Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a high-acuity and high-pace environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of high-risk nursing experience.
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
