Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room. This is a travel/contract position based in Columbus, Ohio, with a contract length of approximately 13 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable; required for certain units.
- Other Certifications:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required only for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification as applicable.
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background Check:
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS Trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is part of the job.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start; must be completed within 1 year of start date.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- Education Verification:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug Testing:
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start; new travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required: Tdap, TB test or chest x-ray, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- Other Compliance:
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement annually.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts.
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required prior to start.
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam: Required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually for all RNs except certain excluded units or fully remote positions. Minimum passing score 76%. Remediation process available for failed attempts.
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership. Charge RN acceptable as second reference.
- Employment application required for all candidates, including education details for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and is time sensitive.
- Candidates with breaks in service over 90 days may require new fingerprinting.
