Description

Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Work Details

  • 36/36 schedule
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • No call required
  • Floating required
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional shifts beyond commitment may be offered as overtime and flexed as needed

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

License Requirements

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee

Orientation

  • General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs)
  • 16 hours of non-billable orientation required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical nursing care in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Participate actively in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed or working in Tennessee
  • Primary source verification of state license
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Photo for badge (must meet specific standards)
  • Completion of facility-specific forms including dress code, smoking/tobacco use, influenza policy, and exposure statements
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms (time sensitive)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Respiratory fit testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity/declination for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR titers or vaccine documentation)
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer or vaccine documentation)
  • Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)

Certifications (as applicable)

  • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
  • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI accepted)
  • PALS and NRP may be required/preferred depending on unit
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) highly preferred for ER candidates

Additional Notes

  • Traveler’s permanent residence must be at least 100 miles from the hospital’s service area
  • Candidate must commit to completing all compliance documents and orientation by deadlines
  • Active participation in clinical education for nursing students is expected alongside patient care
