Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Overview
- Work in an 18-bed Level 1 Trauma Operating Room.
- Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant surgeries.
- Variable shifts: days/evenings, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts.
- Call required Monday-Friday 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM; weekend and holiday coverage may be required.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care during surgical procedures.
- Circulate primarily in Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
- Maintain patient records using EPIC.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience working in a Level 1 trauma center with trauma experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Experience
- Experience in ENT, Genitourinary (GU), Plastics, and Burns cases.
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor level.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
- Unit-specific competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency within 1 year of start.
- Annual safety manual acknowledgement.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM).
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and state fingerprinting (Ohio BCI & FBI) required prior to start.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Additional Notes
- Call coverage includes evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to work variable shifts and holiday coverage as needed.
- Compliance with facility dress code and hand hygiene policies required.
- Candidates must complete all required competency exams and certifications prior to or shortly after start.
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed according to facility-specific codes and procedures.
This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, trauma-focused surgical environment with a diverse range of surgical specialties. Ideal candidates will have strong OR experience, trauma center exposure, and the ability to adapt to variable shifts and call schedules.
