Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination based on staffing needs)
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- Patient care includes:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
- Care for patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
- Symptom management related to disease progression or treatment
- Management of comorbidities
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Use of specialized equipment including GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, and Stryker beds
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Ability to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
Clinical Skills Required
- Arterial line management
- Central line care/management
- PICC line management
- IV starts
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
- High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, FBI/BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
- Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- Annual competency exams including:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required annually)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (mask required if declining)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement (annual)
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
Additional Notes
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to change based on staffing priorities
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced oncology med-surg environment with complex patient needs
- Floating to other units may be required
- Facility-specific policies on dress code, hand hygiene, and compliance must be reviewed and signed
