Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Neuro Registered Nurse
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Unit: Medical Surgical / Neuro Stepdown
- Shift Options: 48-hour shifts or 36-hour shifts
- Nursing Model: Team nursing ratios (discuss specifics during interview)
- On-Call: As needed
- Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend block may be considered)
- Locals: Not accepted (100-mile radius rule applies)
- First-time travelers: Not accepted
- Pending License: Not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Must be included at time of submission
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Level I trauma experience, including trauma experience in general
- Experience in a large hospital setting
- Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Licensure
- Valid Tennessee RN license or multistate RN license under Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
Immunizations & Health Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
- Proof of immunizations or positive antibody titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start date
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands of the job
Additional Requirements
- Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check (for TN facilities)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Photo for badge meeting strict guidelines (passport-style, no glasses glare, no hats/headphones, recent within 6 months)
- Submission packet including application, references, skills checklist, and license verification
Special Notes
- No acceptance of candidates with pending licenses
- Must comply with all documentation and credentialing requirements prior to start
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
- Weekend and on-call shifts required as needed
- Candidates must be prepared to discuss nursing ratios and scheduling during interview
References & Evaluations
- Two recent professional references required
- Performance evaluations required if employed with agency for one year or more
This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with Level I Trauma and large hospital experience who meet all licensure and certification requirements and are ready for a 13-week contract in a fast-paced neuro stepdown unit.
