Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Med Surg Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination based on staffing needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed to change)
  • Patient population primarily includes:
    • Patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy
    • Soft tissue malignancy patients receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
    • Symptom management related to disease progression or treatment
    • Management of comorbidities
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Use of specialized equipment including:
    • GE telemetry system (B450 monitors)
    • Bladder Scanner
    • Alaris pumps
    • Stryker beds

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio with NURSYS verification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Clinical skills including:
    • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
    • Accessing ports
    • Arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and PICC line care/management
    • IV starts
    • Assistance with chest tube insertion/removal
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
    • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Clinical Skills Required

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line and PICC line care/management
  • IV starts
  • Assistance with chest tube insertion/removal
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI)
  • Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed)
  • Required health documents including:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, TB screening)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (annual updates required)
  • Professional references: 2 required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership

Additional Notes

  • Orientation and unit-specific competency exams required
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Candidates must be prepared for fingerprinting and background check processes specific to Ohio
  • Candidates may be required to complete fraud, waste, and abuse training prior to start or within 90 days of hire

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology med-surg setting with a focus on complex patient care and advanced clinical skills. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory. The role requires flexibility in shift assignments and the ability to work across similar acuity units.
