Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a clinical resource unit with a focus on oncology and progressive care (PCU) level patients.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in high acuity PCU level or higher required.
- Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- Floating assignments to MedSurg and PCU Oncology units including:
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Acute Leukemia
- Hematology
- Medical Oncology
- PCU Oncology
- Gynecological Oncology
- Urology
- Colorectal
- Surgical Oncology
- Corrections Healthcare
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
- Shift options include 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs.
- Staffing ratios: PCU typically 1:3, can be 1:4 with mixed acuity; MedSurg Telemetry ideally 1:4, can be 1:5.
- Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs.
- No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are submitted and balanced by management.
- Orientation includes one week of Monday-Friday day shifts followed by 5 bedside orientation shifts over weeks 2-3 before independent practice.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
- PCU nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Additional Information
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- No prior travel experience explicitly required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with PCU or higher acuity experience seeking a travel contract role in a specialized oncology and progressive care setting.
