Physical Therapist Travel/Contract Job - Charleston, West Virginia

Job Details

  • Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation (Physical Therapist)
  • Location: Charleston, West Virginia
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5x8 days)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 therapist to 5 patients
  • Typical Patient Load: 3-4 patients per day, 90 minutes each
  • Unit Description: Medical Rehabilitation Unit in a trauma hospital, primarily stroke patients (40%)
  • Start Date: Every other Monday (once fully cleared)
  • Charting System: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Physical Therapist license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Physical Therapist experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Work Requirements & Conditions

  • Weekend Requirement: No
  • On-call Requirement: No
  • Float Requirement: No
  • Dress Code: Scrubs allowed in any color except blue, forest green, or maroon (reserved for nursing)
  • Physical Exam: Must be completed within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no physical limitations
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual fit testing required (3M N95 1860 Small or Regular and Aura 9205 accepted); accommodations available if needed
  • Drug Testing: Must be within 30 days of start and updated annually; no placeholders or pending results accepted
  • Background Check: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county, sex offender, national, and international searches if applicable
  • TB Testing: Negative TB test within 3 months of start; 2-step skin test or preferred QGold/TSpot; annual TB questionnaire required for positive responders
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tdap required (given after age 11), no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titers required; boosters may be needed if titers are negative or equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination or positive titer required; series must be completed if no prior immunity
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titers required; boosters may be needed if titers are negative or equivocal
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season with proof; exemptions require approval
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not mandatory; proof or signed declination accepted

Documentation Required Before Start

  • Candidate profile (work history)
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (annual, showing true skills)
  • Minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references within past 2 years
  • Physical Therapist license verification
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • Background checks and other compliance documents as required

Additional Notes

  • Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked
  • No on-call or weekend shifts required
  • No float assignments required
  • Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) and includes Cerner Infusion Management training
  • Candidates must complete required in-service training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Pass/fail testing is not required for Physical Therapists (only for nursing)
  • Flu vaccine refusal without medical proof will disqualify candidate during flu season

This position is ideal for Physical Therapists with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working in a rehabilitation unit focused on stroke patients, with a standard weekday schedule and no weekend or on-call duties.
