Description
Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health
Location: Ottumwa, Iowa
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours guaranteed
Call Requirements: No call
Patient Population: Adults aged 18-65 with behavioral health conditions such as anxiety, depression, manic disorders, borderline personality disorder, and suicidal ideation
Unit Details:
- Behavioral Health Unit with 14 beds (average daily census around 7)
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6
- May be required to float within a 25-mile radius of the facility
- Electronic Health Record system: MediTech
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Iowa
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Behavioral Health nursing
- Travel Experience: Prior travel experience required; candidates without travel experience will not be considered
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
- Education: ADN or BSN required
Onboarding Requirements
- Must have Iowa SING background check clearance (including criminal and child abuse portions) — no exceptions
- All background checks (county and state) must be fully cleared prior to start; instant or statewide searches are not accepted
- Mandatory reporter certification for both child and adult populations required
- Drug test must be a 10-panel screening including opiates
- Immunization titers must be current within the last 12 months for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and TB
- Start days allowed: Monday or Tuesday
Additional Information
- The unit cares for adult behavioral health patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses
- No call responsibilities
- Dress code and submission requirements include a full candidate packet with resume, self-assessment, and skills checklist
This position offers an opportunity to work in a dedicated Behavioral Health Unit with a supportive team focused on individualized patient care.
