Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed
Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Unit
- Trauma Level: Critical Access (Rural Location)
- Number of Beds: 25
- EMR System: EPIC
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
- Shift Length: 12 hours (0645-1915, 1845-0715)
- Scheduling: Team scheduling with possible block scheduling upon request
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Alternating or as scheduled (usually every other holiday)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Required to float between ER and MedSurg support
- Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
- Dress Code: Scrubs provided, no specific color required
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses/Patients: Dementia, dependent older adults, diabetes, rehab/restorative care post-acute illness, IV medication, fluid and blood administration, COVID, wounds, initial trauma care in ER, exacerbation of chronic illnesses, geriatric population, general rehab post-surgery
- Experience/Skills Needed: Understanding of dementia, stroke, skin care, and geriatric patient care
- Nurse Responsibilities:
- RNs required to titrate drips (electrolytes, hypertensive meds, IV antibiotics, blood transfusions)
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (no Telehealth)
- Manage CPAP equipment troubleshooting only (no other respiratory equipment management)
- Support Staff: Nurse Aides/CNAs on each shift; Charge Nurse present with team assignment (no individual assignments)
Required Certifications & Experience
- Valid RN license in North Dakota
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC
- Experience working with geriatric patients, including understanding of dementia, stroke, and skin care related to geriatric patient care
Additional Information
- No clinical involvement outside of nursing scope
- Radius rule: Candidates must be located within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities within the health system
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
