Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR RN)
  • Shift: Four 10-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
  • On-Call: Yes, 2-star call until 11 PM weekly and every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd to 4th weekend
  • Number of ORs: 12
  • Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an acute care setting

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval, depending on unit needs
  • Local candidates within a 60-mile radius are not accepted
  • Facility may call off one shift every two weeks; called-off hours can be combined to equal one shift

  • Total staffed beds: 276
  • Scrubs provided
  • Electronic charting system: Epic
  • Free parking available
  • During hurricane season (June–November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams; new or extended assignments during this time should be considered carefully

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background check including 7 years of history, national and state criminal checks, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as applicable
  • Annual drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (August 1 – April 30)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing staff
  • Radiation exposure attestation required if radiation badge is needed
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approximately 4 hours)
  • Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge issuance
  • Signing of assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
  • Facility-specific COVID exemption form required if requesting religious exemption

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted if they have broad specialty competency
  • Candidates cannot start without their radiation badge if required; badges may take 5-7 days to process
  • All licensure and certification documents must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of start date
  • Background and licensure hits require facility approval before clearance

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses seeking a travel contract in a Level 3 trauma center with a diverse surgical caseload and a structured 4x10 schedule.
