Description
Registered Nurse (Neuro MedSurg)
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: 6 West - Neuro
- Beds: 20 total (14 floor beds)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 for floor patients
- Nurse aide ratio: 1:7-10 with 3 nurse aides per shift
- Telemetry unit with monitor techs; RNs verify monitor tech readings in Epic but do not read strips themselves
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7; RNs are not required to have ventilator experience
- Charge nurse coverage 24/7
- Possible floating to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, 10E) as first priority, then hospital-wide if needed

- Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS)
- Stroke
- Seizures
- Surgical/Post-op spine patients
- Neurological disorders
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA) required
- NIHSS certification required and must be in hand at time of submission
- ACLS preferred
- Recent Epic experience required
- Strong neuro experience required, including proficiency with G-tubes
- Titration of drips is generally by physician orders; some protocols may allow RN titration with education

Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Weekend day shifts: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
- Weekend night shifts: Friday, Saturday, Sunday OR Saturday, Sunday, Monday
- Weekday night shifts: every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday work required as part of rotation
- Travelers should be flexible; 3 consecutive shifts allowed but not guaranteed
Orientation
- One shift orientation on the unit during a weekend day shift (Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 7:00 am - 7:30 pm)
Additional Notes
- Any background hits must be disclosed at time of submission
- Scrub color/dress code: any combination of white and royal blue
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Proficiency with G-tube patient care and management, including care frequency
- Strong neurology experience
- Recent experience with Epic electronic health record system
