Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position
Location: Cortez, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide nursing care to patients ranging from newborns (28 days) to end of life in an ICU setting. Deliver safe, efficient, and courteous care using appropriate nursing procedures. Demonstrate clinical competence, knowledge of disease processes, and ability to assess and interpret patient data to meet clinical needs. Utilize information technology to support evidence-based care and improve patient outcomes.
Patient Population & Unit Information
- ICU patient ratio: 2:1 for ICU status patients; 4:1 for Med Surg patients if no ICU patients present
- Common patient conditions: DKA, Cardiac, Sepsis, Surgical, high risk of decline
- Unit-specific duties include:
- Intensive Care Unit care
- Family birthing support
- Procedural sedation
- Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care (including complications)
- Rapid sequence intubation
- Fetal and advanced cardiac monitoring
- Newborn care (delivery to discharge)
- Ventilator/BiPAP management
- Trauma alert response
- Critical drips and rapid infuser use
- Various screenings (hearing, CCHD, EMTALA)
- Infant security and phototherapy
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation
- Ability to supervise non-professional staff and assist physicians with patient care
- Proficient in medication administration and controlled substance processes, including EMAR and scanning
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and customer service
- Basic computer proficiency and strong organizational skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety and infection control standards
- Flexibility with working hours and shifts to meet staffing needs
- Ability to care for patients of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds
Physical & Work Environment Demands
- Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors
- Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors
- Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind
- Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent movement including kneeling, crouching, reaching, and fine auditory and visual skills
