Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) specializing in adult to geriatric patient care. The unit focuses on patients with advanced cardiovascular support devices and post-operative care following major vascular surgeries.


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics
  • Patients with LVADs, balloon pumps, Swan-Ganz catheters, temporary pacemakers, femoral and venous sheaths, arterial lines, TR bands, and patients on Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Post-operative care for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repairs requiring strict positioning and monitoring

Unit Details

  • 10-bed CVICU with an average daily census of 7 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Multidisciplinary rounds with intensivist Monday-Friday at 10 AM
  • Nurses typically carry 2 patients
  • Cardiac medication titration and sedation management for intubated patients
  • Use of Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication tools
  • Navy blue scrub color
  • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Every other weekend work schedule
  • No call requirements
  • Holiday work expectations apply if major holidays fall during assignment

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (CVICU or critical care)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse license for Georgia
  • Ability to titrate cardiac drips, vasoactive medications, and sedation
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with physicians and care team

Orientation & Compliance

  • Maximum Return to Orientation (RTO) time: 7 days
  • Full compliance with credentialing and onboarding required to start on time
  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length
  • Background checks, education verification, and health screenings required prior to start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Up-to-date immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Flu vaccination or documented declination required during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start

Additional Requirements

  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Verification of recent work history
  • Two clinical references required
  • Medication and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams required
  • Color blindness test required

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Floating within the facility as needed
  • Expected to work major holidays if they fall during the assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
  • Effective communication and teamwork essential for patient safety and care quality
