Description
Travel Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position on a 7th Floor Intermediate Step Down Unit (cardiac-focused)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Floating: May float to like or lesser acuity units within scope
- Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred (minimum 1 year required)
- Must have telemetry and cardiac/stroke experience
- Some cardiac drip experience required (e.g., Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix)
- Experience caring for renal patients (hemodialysis done by outside company)
- Proficient in reading, identifying, and reacting to cardiac rhythms (passing a telemetry rhythm identification quiz is mandatory)
- Experience with all modes of oxygenation except ventilators
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Current, active Registered Nurse license for Indiana (pending license accepted if active prior to start)
Additional Requirements
- Must live outside a 50-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in required
- Physical exam, negative TB test or chest X-ray, and drug screening required
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific modules (approx. 8-10 hours) before start date
- Must complete confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement prior to start
- Passport-style photo required for badge

- Short Term Acute Care facility
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking available with no cost for overnight shifts
- Scrub colors: Royal Blue or White
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required; first-time travelers accepted
This position requires strong cardiac nursing skills and the ability to work independently on a telemetry step down unit during night shifts.
