Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU/Pediatric

Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in both neonatal and pediatric units depending on facility needs.
  • No on-call required.
  • Schedule includes every other week (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH).
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) requests must be approved by the facility.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required.
  • Must have at least 1 year experience in a Level 3 or higher NICU or a minimum of 1 year PICU experience.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Current state Respiratory Therapist license.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Neonate patients.
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • Federal and state-level screenings including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG.
  • Pennsylvania-specific fingerprinting and child abuse clearances required within 90 days of start.
  • Education verification for highest level of education.
  • Drug testing with a negative 10-panel or 9-panel (without THC) within 60 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 2 months of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series)
    • Varicella
    • Flu seasonal vaccination or approved declination
    • COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • References: Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within the last 12 months.
  • Employment application with 7 years of complete work history and explanations for gaps over 90 days.

Additional Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (for RNs, if applicable).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required annually for RNs/LVNs, not applicable here but noted for reference).
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication (not applicable for this role but part of general clinical requirements).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • National certification verification prior to start and upon expiration.

  • This position involves working in a Level 3 or higher NICU and/or PICU setting.
  • The facility requires all certifications to be current and from approved organizations (e.g., AHA for ACLS, PALS, BLS; AAP/AHA for NRP).
