Description
Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First-time travelers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Expected to float within ICU community including CVICU, Med/Surg ICU, and Neuro ICU
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Local candidates: Not accepted (must be outside 100-mile radius)
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Minnesota
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience
- CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Specialty Skills & Requirements
- PA catheter interpretation and analysis required
- Open heart recovery experience strongly preferred
- Experience with LVAD, RVAD, Impella, and IABP required
- CRRT with Prismaflex and ECMO preferred
- Competency with ventilators and hemodynamic monitoring including PA catheters
- Targeted Temperature Management
- Bedside tracheostomies and PEG tubes
- Use of Endotool for glucose monitoring
- Experience with temporary pacemakers, Heart Mate 2 & 3, Centra Mag, Impella, and balloon pump

- Magnet recognized, Teaching hospital, Level III Trauma center
- Total staffed beds: 672
Required Background & Compliance
- Criminal background check within 1 year of start (7-year standard MN statewide search)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 1 year
- Transcript or diploma verification as applicable
- Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start (no pending fingerprints allowed)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations and health requirements including:
- Adult Tdap (no declinations accepted without exemption approval)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (documentation required before or shortly after start)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required)
- Hepatitis B (proof of immunity or vaccination series)
- Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination series)
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-26 season (declinations accepted)
- Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety virtual questionnaire) required prior to start
- Drug testing within 1 year (9 panel acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Medication and pharmacology competency exam required
- Annual skills checklist required
- Completion of facility-specific pre-orientation online modules within 72 hours of assignment start
- Passport-style photo for badge required within 48 hours of contract signing
- Uniform guidelines must be reviewed prior to start
Notes
- Candidates must be able to meet all licensure and certification requirements for Minnesota
- Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Floating within ICU units is expected as part of the assignment
- The client may cancel up to 3 shifts without penalty; guaranteed hours do not include on-call time
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong critical care skills and prior travel contract experience seeking a 12-week travel assignment in Minnesota.
