Registered Nurse (Endoscopy Pre/Post & Intraoperative)

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Endoscopy Pre/Post
• Beds: 9 Pre/Post beds
• Cases per day: 10-25
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year of Endoscopy experience
• Proficient with IV starts

Job Duties

Preoperative Care

• Conduct patient assessments including medical history, allergies, and current medications
• Complete required documentation and consents
• Prepare patients physically and emotionally for procedures; explain expectations and answer questions
• Administer pre-procedure medications as prescribed

Postoperative Care

• Monitor patients in recovery for stability, manage pain, nausea, and other post-procedure concerns
• Provide discharge instructions regarding medication, follow-up care, and dietary restrictions
• Ensure patients meet criteria for discharge or safe transfer to inpatient care

Common Procedures

• EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
• Colonoscopies
• ERCPs (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
• PEG tubes and others

Scheduling & Shifts

• Monday to Friday
• Shift options: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM or 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
• Call requirements:

  • Weeknights: 2 times per week (end of shift to start of next shift)
  • Weekends: Approximately 1 time per month (end of shift Friday to start of shift Monday)
  • Holidays: May be included in holiday call rotation
• Call response time: 30 minutes
• Floating between Pre/Post area and Intraoperative Endoscopy

Additional Information

• Charge nurse responsibilities for Preop, Intra-op, and Post-op areas
• No techs or nurse aides in the department
• Anesthesia and respiratory therapy support available as needed
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs (not provided)
• Orientation: 3-5 days, 8-hour days; must be proficient in pre/post and intraoperative endoscopy procedures
• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license required

Required License

• Current, active RN license valid in West Virginia
