    Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

    Location: Silverdale, Washington
    Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

    Job Description

    Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a travel contract in a hospital setting. The unit is a Birthing Center/Mother Baby unit with:

    • 34 total L&D beds
    • 2 OR suites for C-sections
    • 2 triage beds
    • 14 postpartum beds
    • Approximately 150-180 births per month (over 2,100 deliveries in the past year)

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience (1 year considered if candidate has multiple prior travel contracts)
    • Active Washington RN license (pending license submissions accepted; temporary license takes ~4 weeks)
    • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Prefer intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification
    • Must have LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience
    • Comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections
    • Able to assist with catching and transitioning newborns
    • Able to titrate drips such as Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin

    Prior travel experience:

    • No first-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience required

    Unit & Patient Care Details

    • Patient population: Pregnant patients 33 weeks gestation and above, including high-risk cases such as preeclampsia, diabetes, psychosocial issues, and positive illicit substance use
    • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 in L&D, 1:3-4 in couplets (mother-baby)
    • Charge nurse role is a free charge position on both shifts
    • Support staff includes one surgical tech 24/7 and a patient care assistant with clerical duties each shift
    • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage
    • 24/7 OB anesthesia provider on unit with call room
    • Respiratory therapy equipment available, typically one RT assigned to family birth
    • Telemetry/monitor techs available for PACU after C-section; RNs read their own strips
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity-perinatal

    Scheduling & Work Environment

    • Block scheduling available upon request
    • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat)
    • Holiday rotation with permanent staff
    • Standby call with 45-minute response time when placed on standby
    • Floating limited to mother-baby and postpartum units only; no NICU or outside department floating
    • Travelers expected to function in postpartum with routine mom and baby competencies and attend low-risk deliveries
    • Scrubs and locker provided
    • Orientation includes 8 hours compliance training, 8 hours EPIC training, plus 2-3 twelve-hour unit-specific shifts

    Unit Policies & Notes

    • Strict surgical hand scrub policy:
      • No jewelry on hands or forearms
      • No artificial nails or enhancements (tips, acrylics, gels, nail art, etc.)
      • Natural, well-manicured nails no longer than ¼ inch beyond fingertip
      • No open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on hands, forearms, or cuticles
    • Manager is supportive and provides feedback to ensure quality care
    • Travelers must be adaptable to unit workflows, policies, and feedback

    This position is ideal for experienced L&D RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable working independently in a busy birthing center environment.
