Job Description
Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
Unit: Overflow IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit)
Patient Conditions:
- Cardiac arrhythmias (stable A-Fib, SVT, Bradycardia)
- Arrhythmia management, cardioversion, cardiac CHF, chest pain
- Renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT
- Surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
- Occasional vascular, orthopedic, or CVA patient overflow
- Post cardiac catheterization care including TR Bands
- DKA management
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge required
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
Census: 32 beds
Systems Used: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Telemetry (1 year of experience) within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Prior experience with Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin drips
- Prior experience with Bumex and Lasix (diuretic) drips
- Prior experience with Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin (anticoagulant) drips
- Prior experience with insulin drips
Certifications Required
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days per contract
- Weekends: Typically every other weekend; permanent staff scheduled first, travelers fill gaps
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Call: Rare; 2-hour response time if called
- Holiday Work:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them
- Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
Compliance & Orientation
- Full compliance required to start on time
- Non-compliance results in a 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
Additional Information
- Floating within the facility as needed
- Call is rare and typically managed by core staff
- Travelers typically do not administer Precedex
- Locals accepted at the same rate
Required Documentation & Screening
- Valid State RN License (Georgia)
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification of related degree (can be pending with proof of processing)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 60 days of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- References: 2 clinical references required
- Competency exams including medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency
Summary
This is a travel Registered Nurse position in telemetry with a focus on cardiac and intermediate care patients. The role requires at least 1 year of specialty experience and prior travel experience. Candidates must be proficient with cardiac drips and have current BLS and ACLS certifications. The assignment is approximately 14 weeks with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6. Compliance with all documentation, immunizations, and competency requirements is mandatory for timely start.
