OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 5x8 Days (06:45 AM - 3:15 PM)
- Average Daily Census: 50-60 cases per day
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, once a month (16 hours total)
- On-Call: Yes, as needed for the department
- Floating: Will float within scope of practice to meet facility needs
- Locals Accepted: No, must live more than 50 miles from facility
- Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
- First-Timers: Not accepted
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in Illinois
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Knowledge and application of Radiation Safety
- Knowledge and application of Sharps Safety
- Familiarity with Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure
Required Case Skills/Experience by Specialty Area:
- General OR:
- Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection (Open/Laparoscopic), Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (partial/total)
- Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT):
- Direct Laryngoscopy, Radial neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy
- Endoscopic Procedures:
- Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
- Gynecology:
- Abdominal hysterectomy, Anterior/Posterior repair, Bilateral tubal ligation, Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Vaginal hysterectomy
- Neurosurgery:
- Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Oral Surgery:
- Repair of fractured jaws, mandibular and zygomatic
- Orthopedic:
- Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy
- Plastic Surgery:
- Free Flap - Microvascular
- Trauma:
- Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor vehicle accident (multiple injuries)
- Urology:
- Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Ureteroscopy
- Emergency Management:
- Fire Safety
- Equipment/Instrumentation:
- Drills (multiple types), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords
- Professional Knowledge and Skills:
- Aseptic Technique, Isolation Precautions, Radiation Safety, Sharps Safety, Specimen Handling/Labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS: Required
- CST: Preferred
- License: No license required for this role
Additional Requirements
- Must be in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for fingerprinting requirements
- Background checks and various state-specific screenings required within 30 days of start
- Physical exam and immunizations/vaccinations per facility policy (including flu vaccine or approved exemption)
- Drug screening required within 30 days of start
- Badge photo required prior to start
- Parking permit required (no cost)

Notes
- Candidate must discuss all time off requests with manager for approval
- Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without penalty
- On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if used in lieu of cancellation
This position is ideal for experienced OR Techs/Surgical Techs with strong trauma and teaching hospital experience who are open to travel assignments and meet the specified requirements.
