Description
Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (Night Shift)
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 8 weeks)
Contract Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on Medical Surgical and Telemetry units.
- Support the unit during an Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic experience required.
- Responsible for self-studying telemetry strips; must pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to work in the Emergency Department.
- Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
- May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.
- ACLS certification required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Iowa
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records
Required Credentials & Compliance (must be completed prior to or at onboarding)
- COVID-19 Vaccine (declination accepted)
- MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
- Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal)
- Tdap (valid within 10 years; declination accepted)
- Negative TB test within the past year or appropriate documentation if history of positive test
- Fit Test for approved respirators completed prior to start
- Health Statement/Physician Statement within last 12 months
- Drug Screen (9 panel, within 30 days of start)
- Background Check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years
- Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
- Education Verification (highest level applicable to role)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Professional References (2 required, including 1 supervisor)
- Skills Checklist (completed within last 12 months)
- I9 Attestation
- Color Vision test
- Contract Employee Data Sheet
- NSO and OFAC checks within 30 days of start
- Pre-Orientation Computer-Based Learning (CBL) Acknowledgement
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (AHA or Apex Innovations only)
- Epic Registration Acknowledgement Form (after registration completion)
- Driver’s License/State ID (current and valid throughout assignment)
- Background checks and screenings must be current and compliant with facility policies.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Medical/Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
- Years of experience: Minimum 2 years, including recent experience within the last year.
- Prior travel experience: Not required.
Additional Information
- This is a night shift position.
- The assignment includes coverage during an Epic EMR go-live.
- The traveler will not be part of a regular call rotation but must be available for occasional call-ins.
- High professional standards and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members are expected.
This job requires a commitment to patient safety, quality care, and adaptability during a major EMR transition.
