Description

Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 8 weeks)
Start Date: May 18, 2026
End Date: July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on Medical Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • Support the unit during Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
  • Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips and pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to work in the Emergency Department.
  • Occasional on-call availability may be required during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour.
  • ACLS certification required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ACLS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Experience with Cerner EMR.
  • Experience with Epic EMR.

Required Credentials & Compliance (must be completed prior to or at onboarding)

  • Professional license verification (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start).
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification from American Heart Association or Apex Innovations only.
  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
  • MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted).
  • Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted).
  • Tdap (valid for 10 years; declination accepted).
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during season (Sept 1 – March 31; facility declination accepted).
  • TB test (negative test within past year or documentation if history of positive test).
  • Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start.
  • Health statement/physician statement within last 12 months.
  • Background check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance as required by state.
  • Drug screen (9 panel within 30 days of start; THC not required).
  • Skills checklist completed within last 12 months.
  • Education verification through third party.
  • Resume or professional profile.
  • I-9 attestation.
  • Color vision screening.
  • OSHA questionnaire.
  • Various state and federal compliance checks (e.g., EPLS/GSA/SAM, OFAC).
  • Driver’s license or state ID current and valid.

Additional Information

  • This is a day shift position.
  • The assignment includes preparation and support for Epic EMR go-live.
  • The traveler is responsible for self-study and passing telemetry strip interpretation.
  • The traveler will not be part of a regular call rotation but must be available for occasional call-ins.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical/Telemetry RNs comfortable with EMR systems and telemetry monitoring, seeking a short-term assignment with a defined start and end date.
