Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Bedford, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3x12)
- Workweek Hours:
- 3 shifts of 12 hours = 36 hours
- Option for 4 shifts of 12 hours = 48 hours
- Also available: 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend (4 weekend shifts per contract)
- Call Requirement: Typically 1-2 on-call weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Patient Population & Types of Cases
- Adult Critical Care
- Emergency Department
- Extubation, Intubation Assist
- Nasal and Oral Airway Suctioning
- Pulmonary Hygiene and Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Tracheostomy care/management
- Respiratory diagnoses including COPD, Asthma, Pneumonia, ARDS, Cystic fibrosis, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), COVID
- Use of respiratory medications such as Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Mucomyst, Perforomist, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Theophylline
- Equipment: Aerosol setups, Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), T-piece, Trach collar, Ultrasonic, Bag and mask, ET Tube, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Oxygen tanks
- Respiratory Therapy Administration including BiPAP, CPAP, Flow-by, SIMV, Bubble CPAP
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms, weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Basic EKG, Chest Physiotherapy, Drawing and interpreting Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Patient transport (inter-departmental and ambulance)
- Assist in high-risk delivery, near drowning, respiratory distress syndrome
- Preferred experience with Home Care, NICU, Pediatrics, and Transports
Unit Information
- ICU, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical-Surgical units
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Indiana
- Minimum 5 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- Current certifications in ACLS and BLS
Special Requirements
- Experience with respiratory diagnoses such as COPD, Asthma, Shortness of Air (SOA), Pneumonia
- Familiarity with Hamilton equipment for BiPAPs and ventilators
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and federal exclusions (must be current)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (vaccination or positive titer required; no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology test as required
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years)
- Current employment application with full work history and explanation of any gaps
