Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Garden City, Kansas (Zone 4)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Job Overview

• Float pool position covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Garden City, KS.
• Facilities include hospitals in Garden City, Dodge City, and Ulysses.
• No home base facility; travelers must be prepared to float throughout the entire zone.
• Float assignments and schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance.
• Scheduling formats:

  • Option A: Assigned to a single facility for the week, may float within that facility.
  • Option B (Just-In-Time): Facility assigned 1–2 hours before shift start.
• Expected to fill gaps in permanent scheduling and maintain flexibility.
• Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule.
• Holiday rotation participation may be required.
• Rare call or standby duties for low census situations.

Units and Patient Population

• Float across multiple units including:

  • Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele)
  • ICU (low acuity holds within skillset)
  • PCU/Stepdown
• Patient population includes adults to geriatrics with diagnoses such as:

  • Cardiac, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, stable long-term patients, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
• Charge nurse designated on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments unless necessary.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in Kansas.
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience within the last 3 years.
• ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required.
• Preferred experience with neurology patients.
• Preferred experience with Alaris infusion pumps and EPIC electronic health record system.
• Ability to titrate heparin drips.
• Experience working with respiratory therapy equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP).

Additional Information

• Week of orientation requires clinician to be physically present in-state.
• Must submit a valid driver’s license.
• Nurses are expected to float across various specialties and acuity levels within the zone.
• Time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.
• Nurse aides are available on units to assist.

Summary

This is a night shift, 12-hour float pool RN position requiring strong MS-Telemetry experience and flexibility to work across multiple facilities and specialties within a 60-mile radius of Garden City, KS. The role demands adaptability, critical care skills, and certifications including ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Prior neuro experience and familiarity with Alaris and EPIC are preferred.
