Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position for 4 Registered Nurses in the Emergency Department (ED).
  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7 AM - 7 PM), with flexibility required to meet department needs.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
  • Preference for candidates without vacation or travel plans during the contract (limited to no return to origin).
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate.
  • Prior travel experience is strongly preferred.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of Emergency Department nursing experience.
  • Experience in a level 3 or higher trauma center preferred.
  • Experience working with EPIC ASAP system required.

Required Certifications (must have prior to start)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) if possible
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) is a plus

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 4 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Epic
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually, confirming ability to meet physical demands.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 30 days of start.
  • TB questionnaire required and must be updated annually.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within the last 12 months.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions must be submitted for review.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility-specific documents prior to start, including confidentiality agreements, dress code policy review, clinical onboarding exam, and TB questionnaire.
  • Annual education and new hire training required.
  • Religious and medical exemption forms for COVID and flu vaccines must be completed on facility-specific forms and reviewed accordingly.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs with strong clinical skills, EPIC experience, and the ability to work flexible shifts in a fast-paced trauma environment. Prior travel experience is highly preferred.
