Description
Registered Nurse – Dialysis
Location: Bryan, Texas
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Dialysis Suite
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 2:1 and 1:1 treatments
- Patient Types: ESRD, acute renal failure, peritoneal dialysis patients
- Treatment Areas: Acute hemodialysis suite and ICU (1:1 care)
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum specialty experience: Acute care dialysis nursing competencies
- Must have peritoneal dialysis experience, including hookup and disconnect using Baxter Home Choice machines
- Competent in AVF/AVG cannulation, CVC access
- Skilled in recognition and management of hemodialysis complications and emergencies
- Peritoneal dialysis site and catheter care, initiation, and termination
- Ability to titrate heparin drips
- Familiarity with set rate drips: amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone
Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIHSS (AHA or APEX)
- Valid RN license for Texas
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift: Days
- Hours per shift: 12 hours
- Hours per week: 36 hours
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (includes Friday night call, Saturday day/evening, Saturday night call, or Sunday day)
- Call Requirement: On call one night per week and every other Sunday (maximum)
- Floating: Primary float between Bryan and College Station campuses (16 minutes apart) as needed
Orientation & Work Environment
- Orientation: General paperwork orientation on first shift, followed by unit-based orientation (at least one shift)
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required
- Call outs are strongly discouraged and may lead to termination
- May be asked to precept new staff as needed
Additional Information
- Patients in the acute suite are on tele monitors with monitor techs reading strips; ICU patients are on bedside and central monitoring
- Respiratory equipment (ventilators, HiFlow, CPAP, BiPap) present only in ICU with ICU RN and RT support
- No nurse aides on the unit
Employment Restrictions
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility associated with certain health systems within the past year; PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable.
