Job Summary

The Radiation Therapist administers ionizing radiation treatments to patients according to the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and instructions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver planned radiation therapy accurately with minimal supervision.
• Verify patient information and prepare treatment room and equipment.
• Monitor patient condition during treatment; recognize complications and notify physician or nurse as needed.
• Explain treatment procedures, communication methods during therapy, and emergency protocols to patients.
• Reinforce Radiation Oncologist’s advice regarding treatment reactions and patient care.
• Perform quality assurance checks on treatment plans before therapy.
• Conduct daily image fusion to verify treatment fields match the targeted area (when applicable).
• Fabricate custom immobilization devices to ensure accurate patient alignment for daily treatments.
• Follow radiation protection principles for patient, self, and others.
• Perform daily quality assurance checks on radiation delivery equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Radiation Therapist license in Illinois
• Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Licensed Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy
• Registered in Radiation Therapy (T) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

Experience

• No prior travel experience required.

This position offers a clinical allied health role focused on radiation therapy delivery in a day shift schedule over a 13-week contract.
