Radiation Therapist - Radiation Oncology
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Day
Hours: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Radiation Therapist administers ionizing radiation treatments to patients according to the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and instructions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver planned radiation therapy accurately with minimal supervision.
- Verify patient information and prepare treatment room and equipment.
- Monitor patient condition during treatment; recognize complications and notify physician or nurse as needed.
- Explain treatment procedures, communication methods during therapy, and emergency protocols to patients.
- Reinforce Radiation Oncologist’s advice regarding treatment reactions and patient care.
- Perform quality assurance checks on treatment plans before therapy.
- Conduct daily image fusion to verify treatment fields match the targeted area (when applicable).
- Fabricate custom immobilization devices to ensure accurate patient alignment for daily treatments.
- Follow radiation protection principles for patient, self, and others.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on radiation delivery equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Illinois
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy
- Registered in Radiation Therapy (T) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience
- No prior travel experience required.
This position offers a clinical allied health role focused on radiation therapy delivery in a day shift schedule over a 13-week contract.
