Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU (Peri Anesthesia)
Location: Lewiston, Maine
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Variable between 5:30 AM – 8:00 PM
Hours per Week: 36 (guaranteed)
Weekend Hours: Approximately one weekend every 5-6 weeks
Call Requirements: Yes
Unit and Patient Care Details
- Unit: Peri Anesthesia (Pre-op/same day surgery and Phase I PACU)
- Beds: 19 pre-op/same day surgery beds and 12 Phase I PACU beds (both required)
- Patient Ratio: Average 2:1
- Patient Population: All ages (pediatric, adult, geriatric)
- Trauma Level: Level III Trauma Center
- EHR Systems: Surginet-Cerner, Omnicell
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Required Experience and Skills
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PreOp / PACU - Post Anesthesia Care, including experience within the last year
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Trauma experience
- PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience
Preferred Experience
- Trauma Level II experience
- Teaching hospital experience
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Experience with Cerner EHR system
- Experience with bariatric surgeries (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve)
- Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Pacemaker insertion and post-cath lab procedures
- Extubation, LMA/ET, intubation
- Pre/post cath lab, endoscopy, and interventional radiology procedures
- Familiarity with Omnicell medication dispensing system

- Float requirements are rare
- Dress code includes provided scrubs; navy blue scrubs allowed if permitted by SDS
- Personality fit: Adaptable to a fast-paced, multidisciplinary perioperative environment
