Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location: Macon, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit Details

  • Primary role in Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) credential not accepted.
  • Must be proficient and able to function independently in critical care of neonates including:
    • Intubation (>22 weeks gestational age)
    • Obtaining arterial blood samples
    • Assisting in high-risk, low-volume bedside procedures
  • Must also possess adult critical care skills including:
    • Intubation
    • Airway management
    • Arterial line insertion
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
  • No on-call required
  • Floating within hospital and to a nearby hospital as needed

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Ability to function independently in critical care of neonates, including intubation (>22 weeks gestational age)
  • Ability to assist in high-risk, low-volume bedside procedures
  • Adult critical care skills, including intubation, airway management, and arterial line insertion

Compliance & Screening

  • Full compliance with all credentialing and onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time
  • Clinical screening will be conducted to determine clinical fit before final approval
  • Background check, education verification, and licensure verification required prior to start
  • Drug screening and health documents (including immunizations and TB testing) required

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation hours are proportional to contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Return to orientation (RTO) allowed up to 7 days if needed

Holiday Work Expectations

  • If one major holiday falls during assignment, traveler is expected to work it
  • If two major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work both
  • If three major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work two of them
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass color blindness testing or alternative assessment related to blood collection tasks
  • Annual verification of skills checklist and work history verification required
  • References: 2 clinical references required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
  • Flu vaccination or declination required during flu season
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity NICU environment requiring advanced respiratory therapy skills in both neonatal and adult critical care. The role supports professional growth with acceptance of first-time travel therapists and a structured orientation process.
