Registered Nurse (Cardiac Pre/Post Op)

Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiac Pre and Post Op
  • Shift: Days
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
  • Schedule: No block scheduling allowed
  • Weekend shifts: 4 total per 4 weeks
  • Holidays: Based on unit coverage, no guaranteed holiday shifts
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
  • Charge nurse role: Yes
  • Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
  • Scrub color: Provided by hospital (Blue)
  • EMR system: Cerner
  • Telemetry system: Phillips
  • Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
  • Floating: None

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Cardiac Pre Op Center (cardiac pre/post)
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU experience required
  • ICU experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
  • Minimum 2 years of core specialty experience required
  • Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU (implied for this role as well)
  • Must have completed previous travel assignments (travel experience required)

Certifications & Exams

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
    • Required for this unit and related critical care areas
    • Failure results in 6-month disqualification from assignments in this region
  • Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
  • SIMs Lab competency required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail)
    • Competency in sterile field maintenance is mandatory
    • Additional education on lifts, restraints, and wound care provided

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Must have own vehicle (travel teams)
  • No facial piercings allowed
  • Natural hair color only (no unnatural colors)
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
  • Must have been off permanent staff at this employer for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
  • Parking assigned with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage
  • Candidates must include unit size, hospital size, trauma level, and Cerner EMR experience in profile
  • 50-mile radius rule applies; driver’s license is source of truth for location
  • Facility is a teaching hospital; nursing students may be present
  • Contract length minimum: 13 weeks

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong PACU and ICU backgrounds, who have prior travel experience and meet strict certification and exam requirements. The role offers a structured orientation and requires adherence to specific appearance and conduct standards.
