Description
Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown (10SE Cardiac Stepdown)
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours per Week: 36 hours (three 12-hour shifts)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Yes, holidays as scheduled
Unit Overview
- 32 beds total (22 Stepdown, 12 Floor), all private rooms
- Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
- Floor nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
- Clinical Associates support nursing staff at a ratio of 1:8-10 patients (goal of 4-5 CAs 24/7)
- Telemetry monitoring with Cardiac Monitor Technicians (CMTs) interpreting strips; RNs also read strips
- Respiratory therapy equipment available: CPAP, BiPAP, High-flow oxygen
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Cardiac Surgery Post-op: CABG, MIDCAB, Maze procedure, valve replacements, MitraClip, LVAD, heart transplants, TAVRs
- Vascular Surgery Post-op/procedures: AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass, angiograms, amputations
- Cardiology: STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, Watchman device, cardiac catheterization procedures (PTCA, stents, ICDs, ablations, pacemakers)
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Cardiac and vascular nursing experience required
- Ability to titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, TPA, Lasix, dobutamine
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation required (2-3 shifts)
Additional Information
- No call or standby requirement; overtime available
- Floating required to sister units within the Heart and Vascular Institute
- Dress code: solid royal blue and white scrubs
- Unit recognized for excellent patient care and strong teamwork environment
Submission Requirements (For Recruiters)
- Candidates must have a driver’s license address outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after completing 1 full year on the unit
- Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; travel teams must be submitted together
- Submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license
